What is Frozen Custard?

If you like Ice Cream, you will love our fresh Frozen Custard from Theron’s Frozen Custard.  Originating as a Coney Island treat in the early 1900s, frozen custard made its debut during the Chicago World’s Fair in 1933 and has been a dessert staple in the mid west ever since. Now you can try it right here in Redlands at Theron’s Frozen Custard.

The Legal Definition:

Despite this premium ice cream’s humble beginnings, the definition of frozen custard is no laughing matter.  By law, it must contain a certain amount of egg and butterfat to give it the characteristic smooth, creamy flavor.  Custard also contains less air and is served at a higher temperature than ice cream. We do it best at Theron’s Frozen Custard.

How is Frozen Custard made?

Theron’s makes its Frozen Custard fresh on site multiple times each day using it’s own custom made custard machine.  Theron’s vanilla flavor is unlike any you will taste. We use our own secret blend of vanilla extract.

What are the Custard flavors?

We have vanilla and chocolate every day with a special flavor of the week.  We also have multiple toppings and blend ins. Check our web site to see what the flavor of the week is.

How did you choose this location?

When we purchased the Barton House from the city, and saw the cute little adobe house, we knew it would be the perfect place to house Theron’s Frozen Custard.  It is unique and fun place to come and sit and look at the beautiful Barton House or the mountains, while you enjoy your sandwich or custard.

Where did the name come from?

The original Theron is Terry’s father, he passed away a few years ago, and he loved  Theron’s Frozen Custard.  Terry is Theron Jr. and there is a Theron III.  We liked the name so we used it.

How did the concrete’s and sandwiches get their names?

The mom of the group at Theron’s Frozen Custard chose them all, one for each of her kids and places around Theron’s. If you come up with a new item and we add it to the menu at Theron’s Frozen Custard we will name it after you.

What is a concrete?

At Theron’s Frozen Custard you choose the custard flavor with blend-ins blended together to make a very thick shake, one you eat with a spoon.

Why did you want to serve custard in Redlands?

30 years ago when Terry applied for Dental School he interviewed in St. Louis were he went to Ted Drewes, the rest is history so they say.  After years of having it over night delivered, so we could in enjoy it here, we decided to open our own shop and share it with our friends, at Theron’s Frozen Custard.
